HP, Intel, and Oracle recently announced a joint initiative to help customers increase business agility and performance, reduce operational cost, and mitigate the risk for moving applications from mainframe-like systems to an open standards-based environment (see www.hp.com/go/ami).

This powerful combination of three industry-leading companies provides a complete solution to help customers rationalise their legacy application portfolio and to modernise them using Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles and enterprise grid computing platforms that provide increased agility and efficiency without the dependency on legacy skill sets.

The program incorporates HP servers based on Intel processors running Oracle infrastructure software. It also includes Application Modernisation Services from HP along with access to architectural support from all three companies to help design the solution.

The Application Modernisation Initiative analyses the applications portfolio on the mainframe system, and through a detailed assessment and analysis, recommends the appropriate solution. As part of this process, a pre-defined and pre-tested reference architecture is leveraged to reduce risk and implementation time. The solution has the ability to deliver mainframe-like Quality of Service, with a more agile and cost effective platform.
