From Disaster Recovery to Business Continuity

Recent events have shown that natural disasters can strike at any time, with very little warning. The impact of even minor disruptions on businesses can go way beyond the incident itself. As such, IT departments need to evolve from the reactive “Disaster Recovery” to the proactive “Business Continuity”.  This presentation explains why implementing a Business Continuity solution is critical and achievable.

Presenter: James Rabey
James Rabey is a 20+ year veteran of the IT industry, including senior service delivery roles at Citrix and Compaq, with much of that time delivering technical support to some of the largest organisations in the world. In that time, he has seen IT disasters both unavoidable and avoidable.

Oracle DataGuard, Active Data Guard and Golden Gate – the Oracle Disaster Recovery solution options

Oracle Data Guard provides the management, monitoring, and automation software to create and maintain one or more standby databases to protect Oracle data from failures, disasters, human error, and data corruptions while providing high availability for mission critical applications.
Oracle Active Data Guard 11g extends basic Data Guard functionality by allowing read-only access to a physical standby database while continuously applying changes received from the primary database. This increases performance and return on investment by offloading ad-hoc queries, Web-based access, reporting, and backups from the primary database while also providing disaster protection.
