All PL/SQL developers will be conversant with the NUMBER datatype. However in recent database versions, Oracle have made available the native CPU arithmetic - hardware arithmetic. Hardware arithmetic is utilised through the BINARY_FLOAT, BINARY_DOUBLE, and BINARY_INTEGER datatypes. This presentation will outline how to achieve performance gains ranging from 50%, double, 5 times, and even 10 times - WITHOUT TUNING!!! When was the last time you achieved a 10 times performance increase without new hardware, and without doing any tuning?
