SQL Elapsed Time Analysis - OTN Tour
This presentation focuses on how to take standard SQL statement information (e.g., from a Statspack or AWR report) and extend it in a number of practical and profound ways. We begin by investigating what the average elapsed time conveys and how most people's perception of the average doesn't match real production system experimental evidence. To better communicate and set expectations, we present other more useful statistics and visual communication techniques. Finally, we analyze what determines SQL elapsed times and how we can anticipate the impact of our performance tuning strategies.
