For the first time in more than 20 years, credible alternatives to relational databases for enterprise application data storage are emerging. Examples of non-relational databases include the cloud databases (SimpleDB, BigTable, SSDS), column-oriented databases such as Vertica and Michael Stonebraker’s H- Store. This presentation will examine the market and technology trends driving the development of these new database types and provide a technical overview of each. Finally, we’ll examine Oracle’s outlook with regard to these new database types.
