Flashback - The Rewind Button for Your Database

There is a remarkable human condition where you can be both cold AND sweaty at the same time. It comes about 3 seconds after you press the Commit button and you realise that you probably needed to have a WHERE clause on that "delete all rows from the SALES table" SQL statement. Or it might come just after you run "drop table" on the Production database, when you were just so sure that you were logged onto the Test system. This session will discuss how you can use the FLASHBACK features in 10g and 11g to overcome this uniquely human condition.

Airways New Zealand is one of the worlds' leading providers of commercial Air Navigation Services, responsible for managing all domestic and international air traffic operating within New Zealand's 37 million square kilometres of airspace. Airways financial systems are reliable, but fair to say most are nearing their life expectancy. At the top of the replacement list was budgeting and reporting. Airways budgeting system was universally disliked, tying up significant resources, and delivering an outcome that becomes rapidly out of date. Similarly, reporting was becoming far too complex; data rich but information poor. After completing the obligatory reviews, Airways selected Oracle Hyperion as the product tool set to address budgeting, forecasting and reporting issues, and Indigo NZ Limited as the implementation partner.
