Each release of the Oracle RDBMS is associated with dramatic improvements in PL/SQL performance. However, the ultimate performance of any PL/SQL program is still in the hands of the PL/SQL programmer. In this presentation we’ll examine trends in PL/SQL performance, look at tools to identify and tune problematic PL/SQL and examine PL/SQL performance best practices. The presentation will include discussions of profiling, code optimization, in-lining, native compilation and the new 11g function cache.

The presentation looks at the role of ETL tools in Data Warehouse development. We look at the various capabilities that an ETL tool provides and compare them to ‘hand crafting’. We weigh the costs and benefits of ETL tools as compared to ‘hand crafting’ and provide guidelines for the audience to select the correct approach for their own situation. The presentation then looks at various techniques for creating a complete and professional enterprise ETL process using PL/SQL.
